Los Cóbanos: A Marine Treasure
Imagine a place where the beaches have honey-colored sand and the waters are so calm they resemble a natural pool.
That place exists, and it is Los Cóbanos, a fishing community in Sonsonate that hides one of the most important marine jewels of the Pacific: a massive rocky-coral reef, the largest of its kind between Mexico and Costa Rica. A true protected underwater treasure!
Here, you can dive into a world full of life. If you love exploring, snorkeling and diving will take your breath away with volcanic reefs and vibrant marine life. And between December and February, prepare for an unforgettable spectacle: humpback whale watching. These whales choose these nutrient-rich waters to rest before continuing their long journey from the icy waters of Alaska to Ecuador.
If you prefer surface adventures, you can go canoeing or try SUP (stand-up paddle) surfing at nearby beaches. And if fishing is your passion, Los Cóbanos is famous for blue-water fishing, where you can find species such as dorado (mahi-mahi) and marlin.
Los Cóbanos is more than just a destination; it is an experience that connects you with nature at its finest.
At Tours Maravillas – El Salvador, we invite you to enjoy these natural treasures of our country in a healthy and responsible way, caring for the environment so that, in the distant future, we can continue enjoying the unique wonders of our beloved land.
