Brief history of the Volcanoes Complex ​

Cerro Verde Park is located in the Department of Santa Ana at a distance of approximately 2 hours from El Salvador International Airport and 1 hour 30 minutes from San Salvador City. -  

 

Through the volcanoes complex route you will be able to witness an ecological adventure that will lead you to discover a great diversity of fauna and flora, highlighting plant species that do not exist anywhere else in the world and you can enjoy spectacular views surrounding Lake Coatepeque, as it comprises three of the 14 young volcanoes of the Apaneca – Ilmatepec Mountain Range: these being the 3 volcanoes of: Santa Ana or Ilamatepec, Izalco and Cerro Verde, located in the departments of Santa Ana and Sonsonate, which possess elevations ranging between 500 and 2381 meters above sea level.- ​

 

In that sense, each route to the volcanoes is different and they are measured in levels of complexity for hiking. For example:

Cerro Verde is characterized by having a simple route ideal for all levels and ages. - ​

 

The Santa Ana volcano, the level is moderate with a final steep stretch and medium ascent. - ​

 

Being the Izalco Volcano, with a more complex hike, as it is the highest point, related to the fact that it is important to consider terrain conditions, especially weather conditions, so to visit these volcanoes it is recommended to hire the services of a local site guide. -

It is recommended to bring: 

Fresh and comfortable clothes, (1 change of clothes for cold weather) depending on the season of the year (October season fresh clothes)

Comfortable or vulcanized sole shoes

Sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent

Camera with enough memory space and with fully charged batteries

Cash

A plastic bag for trash

A small towel or handkerchief for sweat and personal hygiene accessories

A small backpack so that during the walk you carry at least 1 liter of water per person, light snack, fruit, sandwich, muscle heating gel or sports muscle creams to avoid cramps.

What you should not do:

To enjoy the sounds of nature and increase the possibility of observing a mammal, bird, reptile or amphibian, walk in silence. -

 

Do not remove rocks, logs and plants because they occupy a specific site and perform an important function within the Park.

 

Do not bring pets to the Park.

To make better use of your time, we provide your itinerary:

Depending on each person's pace the Tour can last between 4 and a half hours to 6 and a half hours approximately. -

​

In which we board comfortable transportation with A/C, from your hotel lobby in San Salvador or at the place where you are located. - 

​

7:00 am.        Breakfast at hostel

​

8:00 am.         Arrival at Cerro Verde Natural Park. Time to hire the local guide who will take us on the hike

​

9:00 am. Instructions from our guides for your well-being during the development of the hike.

​

9:15 am. Start of the ecological hike to Santa Ana or Izalco Volcano. The hikes have a comfortable, medium and medium-complex level depending on your physical effort complexity. Therefore, it will not necessarily require prior physical preparation.   

​

11:15 am. Arrival at the volcano crater. The view will leave you amazed. - Unique and unforgettable experience. Here you will be given a small break in which you can take your respective panoramic photos. - hydrate and of course have your snack if it was planned and you are carrying it in your pocket.

11:45 am. We will begin our return to Cerro Verde Natural Park.

12:30 pm. Arrival at Cerro Verde Park, end of the hike. Brief rest.

​

1:00 pm Departure for Lake Coatepeque

​

3:00 pm. Arrival at Lake Coatepeque

​

5:00 pm. Departure for San Salvador

​

7:00 pm. Arrival at Intercontinental Hotel in San Salvador

We have group tours for any date the traveler wants to do it. Prices are based on the number of people who want to take the tour, we have the option of two days and one night staying in a hotel or camping at Casa de Cristal. - We also have scheduled or private tours for any tourist destination in El Salvador, for which we invite you to visit our pages.

 

Cancellations

Cancel free of charge up to 72 hours before the activity. If you cancel with more than 48 hours in advance we will refund you 50%. If you cancel with less time, arrive late or do not show up, no refund will be offered.
